Assessment

The development of high quality assessments is part of the next generation of course redesign for large classes that is being facilitated by CLEAR, The Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign.

Dr. Ronald Carriveau, UNT Assessment and Measurement Specialist, facilitates the assessment component of the course redesign project and the assessment components of the QEP. In addition to providing support for the QEP faculty fellows, Dr. Carriveau makes available campus-wide training on outcome-based assessment, including two-hour workshops on various assessment topics.

The Writing Outcome-Based Assessments Handbook contains an overview of assessment, steps for developing assessments, and guidelines for writing student learning outcomes, selected response items, and constructed response items, plus a sample form for writing a multiple-choice item. The Using Qustion Shells for Writing Multiple-Choice Items that Measure Higher Level Cognitive Skills Handbook provides lists of question shells that can be helpful for developing multiple-choice items that address various levels of cognitive difficulty. The question shells can also help with writing student learning-outcome statements. The handbooks sell for $7 each to parties outside of UNT (plus shipping and handling). To order, email Teresa Cox.
